Perfume bases and ready-made accords for making perfume and developing professional formulas: aromatic blends built to recreate a note, effect or olfactory structure that can be used and modified within more complex compositions.

A base is not necessarily a finished perfume. It can be used as a technical shortcut to introduce a tuberose, iris, tobacco, leather, fruit, spice or other complex effect that would be difficult to obtain with a single raw material.

When to use a perfume base

Bases are particularly useful when you want to build a complex accord more quickly, study an olfactory direction or add a recognisable facet to a composition. They can be used as supplied or modified with individual aroma chemicals and natural materials to make them more personal, transparent, dark, fresh or diffusive.

How to choose a perfume base

Consider not only the smell of the base on its own, but also its behaviour in the formula, working concentration and any IFRA limits. Bases with similar names can have very different structures and strengths and are not automatically interchangeable.
