These materials do not all perform the same function. DPG and TEC are mainly used as solvents or co-solvents, while BHT is a technical antioxidant used to help protect oxidation-sensitive raw materials and compositions.

Solvents for dilutions and working solutions

DPG (Dipropylene Glycol) is one of the most widely used solvents in perfumery for preparing dilutions and supporting non-alcoholic or mixed formulas. TEC (Triethyl Citrate) is a low-volatility co-solvent useful when a less glycolic carrier is preferred and is compatible with many odorant materials.

Technical additives for formulation

Technical additives have different functions from solvents. BHT, for example, is used as an antioxidant rather than as a primary odorant ingredient. Selection and dosage depend on the material being treated and on the final formula.
