Aldehydes and materials traditionally classified as “aldehydic” for creating luminous, waxy, citrus, metallic, soapy and floral effects.

Aliphatic aldehydes C8, C9, C10, C11 and C12 can vary greatly in character and intensity, from orange and lemon peel to green, rosy, waxy or clean-laundry nuances.

C8–C12 aldehydes and traditional nomenclature

In perfumery, some historical names do not correspond to the chemical class of the material. “ALDEHYDE C14” and “ALDEHYDE C18”, for example, are traditional names still widely used, but the corresponding materials are lactones and produce mainly fruity and creamy effects.
