TIMBERSILK™ IFF
TIMBERSILK™ belongs to the same woody-amber territory as ISO E SUPER®, but develops a warmer, rounder and more enveloping sensation. IFF describes it as a powerful yet “silky soft” amber wood: a particularly useful combination when a broad, present foundation is needed without introducing hardness.
Olfactory profile
Woody, amber, warm, cedar-like, soft and velvety. The note has more body than a simple transparent-wood effect, while retaining a smooth and diffusive texture. It can recall pale polished wood warmed by an amber nuance.
In formula
TIMBERSILK™ works very well on the foundation of a fragrance: it adds fullness, continuity and diffusive woody strength that supports the composition without necessarily becoming its center.
With floral materials it can create contrast and structure; with spices it accompanies their warmth; with musks it makes the base broader and softer; with other woody-amber materials it allows intensity and depth to be built progressively. IFF highlights in particular its affinity with CASHMERAN® and bergamot.
It is also interesting at substantial levels because, despite its strength, it tends to retain a rounded, silky sensation. This makes it useful when a woody accord needs more presence without becoming dry, sharp or aggressive.
TIMBERSILK™ or ISO E SUPER®?
The two materials are close in olfactory family and share part of the same commercial chemical structure, but they are not simply interchangeable in formula. ISO E SUPER® is particularly effective for creating transparency, volume and a velvety texture; TIMBERSILK™ tends to give a warmer, fuller and woodier sensation.
When a formula mainly needs air and space, ISO E SUPER® may be the more natural choice. When the base needs to become more present, rounded and warm while retaining softness, TIMBERSILK™ offers a different result.
When to choose it
It is particularly useful in woody, amber, spicy, modern floral and musky-base compositions when a broad, soft and contemporary woody-amber structure is desired, capable of supporting the fragrance without the olfactory violence of extremely high-impact amber woods.
