HEDIONE® 964898 Firmenich
HEDIONE® is one of the materials that transformed the language of modern perfumery. Evaluated on its own, it can seem surprisingly discreet: transparent floral, lightly jasmine-like, with green-citrus freshness and soft fruity nuances. Its true value, however, emerges above all within a formula.
Olfactory profile
Its character is luminous, airy and natural, with an impression of jasmine petals that is more transparent than intensely floral. It has green, citrus and slightly fruity nuances, without the density or sweetness typical of many traditional floral materials.
In formula
HEDIONE® increases diffusion and introduces air and space between raw materials. It can make a composition brighter, more fluid and more natural without necessarily adding a clearly recognizable jasmine note.
It is particularly useful when a formula feels compact, static or overly constructed. In white florals it can add movement and naturalness; with citrus and green notes it extends the sensation of freshness into the heart; with woods and musks it helps create transparency and volume.
One of the most interesting characteristics of HEDIONE® is precisely the difference between evaluating it in isolation and experiencing its behaviour in a composition. Even at substantial levels, it does not simply “smell of jasmine”: it can become part of the fragrance architecture, modifying its space, diffusion and luminosity.
In perfume history
HEDIONE® is closely associated with the emergence of a new idea of transparency in the perfumery of the second half of the twentieth century and is famous for its use in Dior’s Eau Sauvage.
It is also one of the materials strongly associated with the so-called Grojsman accord, the structure made iconic by the work of Sophia Grojsman, where it contributes luminosity, diffusion and space between floral and musky materials.
HEDIONE® or HEDIONE® HC?
Classic HEDIONE® is particularly suitable when volume, transparency and diffusion are required without making the floral component too obvious. HEDIONE® HC belongs to the same family but has a more pronounced floral presence and a more immediate booster effect.
To compare volume and transparency: also evaluate GALAXOLIDE® PURE IFF and TIMBERSILK™ IFF.
