GALAXOLIDE® PURE IFF

GALAXOLIDE® PURE is one of the most emblematic musks in modern perfumery. Its character is clean, soft, persistent and highly versatile, with an impression of fresh fabric and clean skin that can become an important part of the fragrance architecture without necessarily turning into a dominant note.

Olfactory profile

Musky, clean, soft, slightly sweet, floral-woody. IFF describes it as a powerful and versatile musk whose olfactory quality approaches the softness of macrocyclic musks in tone.

In formula

GALAXOLIDE® PURE is particularly effective for adding continuity and volume. In florals it makes the base softer and more persistent; with ionones and methyl ionones it creates an enveloping powdery texture; with HEDIONE® and transparent woods it builds very airy structures; with aldehydic or clean-musk accords it amplifies the sensation of cleanliness.

One of its most useful qualities is its ability to occupy space without necessarily being perceived as a single note. At high levels in a formula it can become a true musky matrix in which the other ingredients gain continuity and persistence.

How to work with it

The pure product is viscous. If the material is difficult to dispense, the tightly closed bottle can be warmed gently until it becomes more fluid, avoiding direct heat. For training work or micro-dosing, preparing a working solution can also be useful.

It is interesting to compare it at different concentrations: at lower levels it acts mainly as support and a fixative, while as the amount increases its clean, soft musky signature becomes progressively more evident.

GALAXOLIDE® or a macrocyclic musk?

GALAXOLIDE® is highly effective when volume, cleanliness and persistence are required. Macrocyclic musks such as AMBRETTOLIDE tend instead to offer a more natural, warm and skin-like sensation. Combining the two can create more three-dimensional and less monotonous musky bases.

When to choose it

It is particularly useful for clean musk, floral, fruity, aldehydic, woody and skin-scent compositions when a soft, persistent and clearly readable base is desired, capable of supporting other materials without making the formula rigid.
