IONONE BETA (β-Ionone)

IONONE BETA belongs to the same olfactory family as IONONE ALPHA but develops a woodier, drier character closer to iris. In the concentrated material the cedar-like side can dominate; in dilution the violet and floral component becomes clearer.

Olfactory profile

Floral, woody, warm, dry and fruity, with nuances of violet, iris, berries and cedar. Compared with IONONE ALPHA it is less “sweet violet” and more root, wood and iris.

In formula

IONONE BETA is particularly useful for iris, woody violet, powdery flowers and floral-woody structures. It can add depth to the heart, create a bridge toward woods and musks and introduce a fruity nuance without adding gourmand sweetness.

It is also highly effective in rose bases and classical florals when the composition needs to feel less sweet and more sophisticated. With transparent woods and musks it can build a soft but well-defined drydown.

IONONE BETA or IONONE ALPHA?

IONONE ALPHA is more floral, violet-like and fruity; IONONE BETA is drier, woodier and closer to iris. For a more immediate violet, alpha is often more direct; for a root, wood and orris effect, beta offers greater depth.

When to choose it

It is particularly suitable for iris, woody violet, rose, powdery accords and florals over a woody base when an elegant, less sweet and drier signature than IONONE ALPHA is desired.
