INDOLE CRYST.
INDOLE is one of the most surprising materials in the perfumer’s palette: at high concentration it can smell fetid, animalic and suffocating, while in traces it becomes floral, radiant and deeply connected to the impression of natural jasmine.
Olfactory profile
Animalic, narcotic, floral and musky, with a signature that can recall night-blooming jasmine, tuberose, warm skin and organic matter. Its character changes radically with concentration.
In formula
INDOLE is fundamental for adding naturalness and depth to jasmine, tuberose, gardenia, neroli and other white flowers. With BENZYL ACETATE and HEDIONE® it helps build a more complete jasmine: the former bring brightness and diffusion, while INDOLE adds the warm, carnal and living side of the flower.
In traces it can make an accord feel more natural without being perceived as an animalic note. As the dosage increases, the narcotic and fetid component becomes progressively more evident and can be used intentionally in dark floral, animalic or vintage accords.
How to work with it
It is preferable to work with it in solution and at strong dilution. The neat material is not very representative of its effect in formula and can easily saturate the working environment. Its reactivity with certain classes of materials and its tendency to affect the color and stability of some compositions should also be considered.
When to choose it
It is particularly suitable for jasmine, tuberose, gardenia, neroli and animalic accords when greater naturalness, depth and sensuality are desired in the floral heart.
