CIS-3-HEXENOL

CIS-3-HEXENOL is one of the most recognizable green raw materials in perfumery. Its character immediately recalls a broken leaf or freshly cut grass and it is fundamental when a realistic vegetal freshness is needed.

Olfactory profile

Green, herbal, fresh and vegetal, with nuances of broken leaf, cut grass, stem and sap. At high concentration it can appear very aggressive and almost pungent.

In formula

It is particularly useful in green accords, grass, leaf, muguet, lilac, fresh fruits, galbanum, mint and aromatic compositions. In traces it can add naturalness and lift; as the dosage increases, the cut-grass character quickly becomes dominant.

With CIS-3-HEXENYL SALICYLATE it creates a greener effect that is more persistent and floral; with LIFFAROME or VERTOLIFF it builds more complex leafy effects; with galbanum it becomes more bitter and vegetal; with fruity materials it can suggest green peel and unripe fruit.

How to work with it

It is an extremely powerful material and is best evaluated at strong dilution. The difference between a realistic green nuance and an excessive cut-grass effect can be very small.

When to choose it

It is particularly suitable when an authentic, immediate green note is needed, rawer and more natural than softer or more floral green materials.
