Dimethyl Anthranilate – CAS 85-91-6

The Dimethyl Anthranilate is a floral fragrance ingredient, reminiscent of bitter orange blossoms with citrusy and slightly medicinal undertones. It has a fruity sweetness similar to methyl anthranilate, but with a cleaner, fresher edge, enhanced by a woody, floral undertone reminiscent of grape skin.

In delicate fragrances, it imparts a pleasant floral character typical of orange blossom. Compared to methyl anthranilate, dimethyl anthranilate does not form Schiff bases with aldehydes and is less prone to discoloration. Its flavor is softer and less typically associated with Concord grapes, closer to a berry profile. Another advantage of this ester is that it can be used in higher concentrations without generating excessive chemical notes.

It is widely used in perfumery, particularly in fragrances for soaps, detergents, shampoos, and cosmetics. It is used in trace amounts, often in 1% solutions, up to a maximum of 5% in the compositional concentration. It is an essential ingredient in floral (acacia, jasmine, magnolia, neroli, tuberose, wisteria, etc.), citrus (mandarin, petitgrain, etc.), and fruity (melon, peach, etc.) fragrances.

It persists for approximately 48 hours on blotter. According to IFRA restrictions for Category 4 (perfumes), the maximum permitted concentration in the finished product is 0.1%.
