BENZYL SALICYLATE

BENZYL SALICYLATE is a relatively discreet floral-balsamic material, but an important one in the structure of a formula. Its value lies mainly in its ability to create continuity, softness and depth around white flowers without imposing itself as a dominant note.

Olfactory profile

Floral, sweet, balsamic, soft and slightly herbal, with a nuance that can recall ylang-ylang, jasmine and white petals. Its character is more background than foreground.

In formula

BENZYL SALICYLATE is particularly useful in jasmine, ylang-ylang, tuberose, gardenia and other white-flower accords. It can bind very different materials together, smooth transitions that feel too abrupt and give the floral heart a broader, more persistent base.

With musks and woody materials it creates a softer base; with salicylates and lactones it can contribute to a solar, creamy floral sensation; in rich formulas it helps maintain cohesion without adding further olfactory intensity.

How to work with it

It is a good example of a material that may seem modest on its own and become much more important in the formula. To evaluate its role, compare the same accord with and without BENZYL SALICYLATE: the difference often appears most clearly in continuity and softness during the drydown.

When to choose it

It is particularly suitable for white flowers, solar accords, creamy florals, musks and ambers when a blending material is needed to increase cohesion, softness and persistence without dominating the composition.
