BENZOIN RESINOID (SUMATRA) 55% BB IFF

BENZOIN RESINOID (SUMATRA) is a rich, vanilla-like balsamic material, useful for building amber, oriental and gourmand bases with greater depth and softness. The commercial product is supplied by IFF at 55% in BB: this indication describes the material as supplied by the manufacturer.

Olfactory profile

Balsamic, vanilla-like, amber and slightly woody, with nuances of sweet resin, dark caramel and a light spicy component.

In formula

It is particularly useful in amber, vanilla, tobacco, leather, incense, gourmand and oriental bases. It can round drier materials, increase the sensation of warmth and create continuity between resins, vanilla and woods.

With VANILLIN or ETHYL VANILLIN it reinforces the vanilla facet; with LABDANUM it builds a more classical amber; with TOLU it becomes more balsamic and enveloping; with OLIBANUM it creates a more resinous, incense-like base.

How to work with it

As a resinoid, it can be viscous and may benefit from gentle, controlled warming to facilitate handling and weighing. Its commercial concentration should be taken into account when comparing dosage with undiluted materials.

When to choose it

It is particularly suitable when a sweet, persistent balsamic material is needed to connect vanilla, resins and woods without introducing excessive harshness.
