AMYL SALICYLATE
AMYL SALICYLATE is a floral-green salicylate with a more herbaceous and dry character than BENZYL SALICYLATE. On its own it can seem discreet, but in formula it is very useful as a bridging material between florals, green notes, woods and fougère accords.
Olfactory profile
Floral, green, herbaceous and slightly balsamic, with nuances of jasmine, tea, leaves, carnation and light woods. Its character is drier and more vegetal than creamy.
In formula
It is particularly useful in fougère, hyacinth, orchid, carnation, green florals, tea and floral-woody accords. It can increase cohesion, provide a persistent green base and soften the transitions between the floral heart and the drydown.
With BENZYL SALICYLATE it builds a more complete floral structure; with HYDROXYCITRONELLAL or MAYOL it supports lily-of-the-valley and green floral effects; with ionones it develops a more powdery nuance; with musks and light woods it can add continuity to the drydown.
AMYL or BENZYL SALICYLATE?
AMYL SALICYLATE is greener, more herbaceous and drier; BENZYL SALICYLATE is softer, more balsamic and more voluminous. The former is especially useful for fougère and green florals, while the latter is better suited to white flowers and creamier structures.
When to choose it
It is particularly suitable when a persistent floral-green bridge is needed to give structure without adding an overly recognizable note.
