operanide
OPERANIDE IFF – musky, dry and amber note

CAS 823178-41-2. Dry, creamy, and smooth woody, ambery, cedar, and musky. Bright.
The Operanide molecule was first presented at the Simppar trade fair in early June 2023. It had been reserved for IFF for around 5 years, but is now available for wider use, although it only became available in the UK in September 2023.
It's a very unusual material, with a high diffusivity and impact. Developed based on work on the chemistry of Cashmeran, although it doesn't seem to have been mentioned by other commentators, it's more reminiscent of Norlimbanol, but with the addition of musky and creamy elements. Most people seem to find it very complex, as if it were a blend of other materials, and it's certainly very sophisticated.
One of the salient features of this material is its function as a blending agent: try creating a chord without it and then with it; you'll find that after adding Operanide, it becomes much more difficult to distinguish the individual chord components—the chord becomes more rounded and complete.
On a paper strip, its scent lasts about 70 hours, and a single soaked strip can fill a large area with the characteristic odor of this material in just a few hours.
IFF describes its material as follows: "Operanide was first synthesized by extending the basic chemistry of Cashmeran® with a ketone group. By adding Operanide to IFF's line of proprietary amber molecules, such as Trisamber® and AmberXtreme™, this olfactory group becomes very complete. The creamiest amber in the IFF ingredient portfolio. Its characteristic qualities are diffusivity, woody-ambery, and musky nuances."
This wonderful molecule is powerful and very musky. A precious woody-creamy amber with gourmand nuances. Operanide is a dry, cedar amber, softened by cashmeran, and, as IFF says, a symphony of amber captured in Operanide. It is one of the finest molecules in the world. It is incredibly strong, with a refined elegance, a subtle amber scent and a strong musky note, as well as a faint, delicate woody aroma, so pervasive, seductive, and classy. It has been used in many of the finest fragrances, including Paco Rabanne's Invictus for Men, which cannot be reproduced without the IFF molecule.
This incredibly diffuse and luminous material joins molecules like Amber Xtreme, Ambrocenide, Amberketal and others in the luminous amber family, although it can be used in much larger quantities, as it is significantly easier to control.
A simple blend of Operanide and Amber Xtreme creates a more elegant, luminous, and beautiful accord than either molecule alone. You can add deep setting qualities with a touch of Z11® MIP (preferably the HD version). Even a small amount of Operanide adds a wonderful creaminess and naturalness to blends surprisingly well. It adds shine to woody materials.
Additionally, Operanide pairs beautifully with Ambrocenide, Musks Zenolide and Edenolide, Tonka materials (e.g., Florex and Coumarone), all patchoulis (especially Clearwood®), Vetiverol and Vetiveryl Acetate, rose ketones (with similar scent chemicals, such as Ethyl Safranate), and ozonic/marine aromas (Cascalone, Calone, Maritima, Floralzone, etc.).
